Frequently Asked Questions

  • The best time to visit Kerala temples is from October to March when the weather is pleasant with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C. This period avoids the heavy monsoon season and provides comfortable conditions for temple visits. For Sabarimala specifically, the temple is only open during specific periods: Mandala Pooja (mid-November to December), Makaravilakku (January), Vishu (April), and monthly poojas. It's important to note that Sabarimala has specific entry restrictions and traditions that must be followed.

  • Kerala temples have strict dress codes. Men should wear mundu/dhoti (traditional Kerala attire) or pants with a shirt. In some temples like Guruvayur, men must enter bare-chested with just a dhoti. Women should wear sarees, churidars, or long skirts with blouses/tops that cover the shoulders. Jeans, shorts, and sleeveless attire are not permitted in most temples. For Sabarimala, if visiting, men must follow the 41-day vratham and wear black/blue attire. Footwear must be removed before entering all temples. Our guides will inform you about specific requirements for each temple.

  • Temple entry policies vary across Kerala. Some temples like Guruvayur and Sabarimala traditionally allow only Hindus to enter. However, many other temples on the tour are open to visitors of all faiths, though non-Hindus may be restricted from entering certain inner sanctums. Our guides will provide information about each temple's specific policies. Regardless of religious background, all visitors must follow the dress code and temple customs out of respect for the religious traditions.

  • Sabarimala visit is subject to several factors including the temple's opening season, current entry restrictions, and whether participants meet the traditional requirements for visiting the temple. The temple is only open during specific periods throughout the year. Additionally, there are traditional practices that devotees follow, including a 41-day vratham (austerity period) before the visit. If the visit isn't possible due to these factors, we arrange visits to alternative significant temples in the region. Please discuss your specific requirements with our team when booking.

  • For your Kerala temple tour, we recommend bringing: appropriate temple attire as mentioned in the dress code (dhotis for men, sarees or churidars for women), a small towel, cash for temple offerings and donations, a water bottle, any prescribed medications, and a hat or umbrella for sun protection. Photography is restricted in most Kerala temples, so please check before taking photos. For offerings, you may want to bring coconuts, flowers, or fruits, though these can also be purchased near the temples. If planning to visit Sabarimala (if applicable), additional specific items would be required.
